Ragnar 2013

I just completed my second Ragnar over the weekend.  It was even better than last year.  I was in a van with Chris and Leah MacPherson, Nate Perry, Dennis Gordon, and Andrew Dutton.  Andrew's dad Glen was our driver.  I missed Peter being there but could understand his desire NOT to sit in a car with six stinky runners for that long.  We had a great time.  I was nervous about being in van two as you don't get any sleep (I honestly slept 1.5 out of 38 hours.)

This was my first run.  I did it at about 4 in the afternoon so it was long hard, and hot.  But, I DID IT!  I was so exhausted when I crossed the finish I was starting to tear up.  Fortunately my running partner Leah was there and she was tearing up as well.  We were both so happy that we had accomplished what we had spent so much time training for!

This is my second run and I did it around 4 in the morning.  It was incredible.  from the very beginning of the lake you could see the lights at the finish and you could see the runners with their lights slowly making their way all the way along the side.  It just happened that this night the moon was closer to the earth than it will be any other night of the year.  It was full and beautiful.  I felt so great that when I came in I was temped to tell my team mate that I wanted to keep running until I finished listening to Footloose! LOVED IT!

After our second run we went and stayed at a SUPER nice house in Oakley where we were able to shower and sleep for our hour.  Then we headed out for our third leg.

This was my third leg.  I totally underestimated it.  2 miles into it I had shaken everything down and had to poop like crazy.  I went into a lodge and took a brief bathroom break.  Then my shoulders were hurting from trying to lean back on such a steep downhill.  I am sure it had something to do with the two runs before and being so tired but this one that I thought would be so easy and fun really ate me up!  Here is a picture of me afterward.
