Bugs

On Monday Brigham turned six.  It was a perfect birthday as we had spent the weekend in St. George and he was able to celebrate it there as well.  Mom and Grandma found the perfect green bike to give him.  We were going to see "How to Train Your Dragon," so Brigham named his bike the dragon.  We were expecting him to be uber excited like his mom but then we remembered he is his daddy's son and he just looked at it and said cool.  When Peter went to take his picture, he didn't even notice the bike and moved his head around it so he could see his dad.
We had a "cake" for him in St. George as well.  Instead of a traditional cake, we had a candy bar ice cream cake.  We saw it on the cover of a magazine and decided to try it out.  It was great.  Brigham loved it.  Hewas particularly excited when I told him taht he could have whatever cany bars were left when we went home.  :)
On the Monday after we got home we celebrated his birthday again.  Aunt Elizabeth asked if we wanted to get together and so we drove down to Provo and went to Fat Cats.  We all bowled and the kids had corn dogs and chicken strips for dinner.  It was cute to see Porter lift such a big ball but a bit disenheartening when he beat everyone but Daddy.
Martie loved the noise and the lights even if she didn't get to bowl.   She did some thinking and then decided that even without a ball she was still #1.
So is Brigham finally done celebrating his birthday?  No way, he is still milking it.  He is going to have a party at the skate park next Friday.  We will pick up his friends for early day and then take them for pizza and skating until the older kids get out at 1.  We can't wait.  We will have to post a picture of the cake we make.

Brigham is such an important part of our family.  He is tough like you wouldn't believe.  He will go on any ride with Mom, he will go with Julia or Porter when they are afraid of the basement, and he loves to help clean.  The other day I sent him down for some beans and this is what he brought up.

He is doing so well in kindergarten and he gets along with everyone.  His teacher says that everyone looks up to him and he can really set the tone for the class.  He also still has a fettish for collecting things.  He hasn't done stick bundles (15-20 sticks the same length held together with a rubber band) since school started but he does try and collect things from school.  He and his carpool friends steal everything out of the garbage.  Yesterday he brought home some papers that were book covers.  The worksheets had all been used and removed but Brigham pulled them from the trash.  He said he wanted to save them.  His other favorite thing to get is the poster size worksheet that they use for math each day on the board.  He pulls them from the garbage to color on them and thinks they are the best.    I think when he grows up he will be a hoarder and a big proponent of recycling.  His friend's mom called today to ask him what he would want for his birthday and I said his dream presant is probably a few rolls of Scotch Tape.

There isn't a day that goes by where Brigham doesn't make you smile at least a few times.  He gets along with older kids, younger kids, boys and girls.  He always has someone to play with because he will play with anyone.  We are lucky to have such a cool kid in our house.
